Preparations for the ceremony begin.

Hi Folks,

I can’t believe that I am on my third post in a few weeks.  Feels good to be back after my long absence.  Lots has been happening at Tranquility Resort since I stopped adding entries but I will soon be caught up.  I decided to put up photos of our house blessing ceremony because the pics are so very interesting.  While Carmen and I attended the ceremony, I cannot offer a lot in the way of explanation for what is going on. I will make some general comments as some captions.  Next time I see Wayan I will have to find out exactly what was happening so I can get that to my readers.  I do know that we were not supposed to stay in the house until after it was blessed.  Unfortunately, we had to stay a few nights before the blessing.  Hope you enjoy the photos.  Next time will be the building of the pool. That will come after the holidays and when I am laid up with a new knee:-)

Our Manager, Wayan, and the Hindu priest who performed the blessing ceremony.
Pak Kadek (our foreman) and his daughter helping to prepare.
Some of the offerings were buried during the ceremony.
The next several pictures show the variety of offerings that are offered to the spirits during the ceremony.
This is a small temple for the house. Offerings will be placed there everyday. This is Hindu custom. Every family has these at their homes and/or their places of business.
As you will see in the photos, the ceremony traveled to different parts of the property. Some of it took place on the veranda of the house, some in front of the house when the offerings were buried and also as you will see participants walking around the house. We walked around it several times. For some reason the captioned photos are not loading into the original location in the gallery. Will have to figure that one out. So hopefully this will make sense.
Towards the end of the ceremony, symbols were hung above the door and along the sides. Markings were also made on the door frame as you will see in the pictures. Offerings were also buried by the foundation as you will also see in the pictures. Carmen and I participated also.
At one point, Suryani, Wayan’s wife went into a trance. Notice her hands in a couple of the pictures. It took several minutes for her to come out of it.
At the end of the ceremony we all had a meal together. Suryani cooked a really great meal.
